  LilyPadz FAQ

How do LilyPadz® Work?

LilyPadz® applies a gentle pressure on the nipple to stop breast milk leakage while they’re properly in place. Nursing mums have used their fingers for years to apply this pressure during letdown. LilyPadz® utilizes this principle...hands free.

Are LilyPadz For Me?

As every baby is different so is every nursing mother.  We have a great success rate with LilyPadz®, but some women prefer to use conventional pads for personal reasons.  We have a greater success rate in mothers with a moderate milk production and flow.

When Can I Start Using LilyPadz®

We recommend using LilyPadz® when your milk flow as regulated after 4-8 weeks.

Will I Ever Leak Again?

The success of LilyPadz® varies on the products application.  Leaking can occasionally happen whilst feeding baby, depending on the mothers milk flow, to prevent this place a little extra finger pressure over the breast you’re not nursing from until let down reflex (the feeling of the milk entering the milk ducts) subsides.   It is also important to stick to your feeding routine, and not miss feedings. LilyPadz® are to be used as a leak preventative in between a mothers regular feeding routine.

What If I Perspire Under LilyPadz®?

LilyPadz® are composed of gas permeable silicone – allowing them to breathe. Although LilyPadz® should not cause you to perspire, should you work up a sweat you will perspire under your LilyPadz® as well. The build up of sweat can dislodge your LilyPadz® so we recommend that they be worn with support in these situations. And any moisture under your LilyPadz® should be dabbed up as soon as possible to maintain good tissue health.

Will The LilyPadz® Lining Wear Out?

Unlike adhesives that wash away, the tacky lining of LilyPadz® is renewed with washing. Simply hand wash with   water and liquid soap (containing no moisturisers, oils or Aloe Vera), rinse well, and shake off the excess water and air dry for a few minutes.  Try to only wash when needed and not excessively.

How Long Will A Pair Of LilyPadz® Last?

The life of LilyPadz® varies from person to person, but can last for months with proper use and care.

How Many Pairs Of LilyPadz® Will I Need?

Because LilyPadz® are non-absorbent and work to prevent the leak, there are never saturated pads to exchange. And unlike other reusable, there is no downtime in the laundry either. Washing takes only a few minutes per day and that one pair of LilyPadz® is ready to go again – that’s why we call them continuously usable instead of reusable, although some mothers like the peace of mind of having a spare.

LilyPadz® Look Like Plastic Are They Comfortable?

Because LilyPadz® are made of thin, soft, flexible and breathable silicone they are like a second skin. They protect the nipple from excess moisture, rubbing and sticking as is commonly experienced with cotton pads. Most mums claim they forget they are wearing them

What Are LilyPadz®  Made Of?

LilyPadz® are manufactured from silicone rubber compounds, the same materials used in baby bottle teats.

I Am Allergic To Latex Will I Get A Reaction?

LilyPadz® are made from 100% silicone, which is a material that is not associated with any allergic reactions. Wash well before use and always be sure to rinse well to avoid soap residues. Some women experience a mild irritation when first using LilyPadz®, but this disappears with repeated use.

Will LilyPadz® Affect My Milk Supply?

No, milk supply adjusts continuously based on the supply and demand established by both you and your child. So as long as you are feeding or expressing milk regularly, this balance will not be disturbed.

Can I Sterilise LilyPadz®?

Yes, LilyPadz® can be sterilized occasionally by placing them in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes.

Are LilyPadz® Safe?

Yes, LilyPadz® are made of pure silicone, a material that shows no allergic reactions. LilyPadz® have not shown to increase the incidence of mastitis or other complications associated with lactating women. They are also midwife, lactation consultant and Dr approved.

Can I Use Lanolin Creams With LilyPadz®?

Yes, lanolin can be used safely with LilyPadz®, although most mums find less of a need for it with LilyPadz®. LilyPadz® helps to maintain proper moisture balance in the breast tissue, neither bathing it in milk nor allowing it to dry out and chafe the way cotton pads can. LilyPadz® also protects against rubbing and won’t stick to colostrum or healing fluids the way cotton pads do. So all in all you should be less likely to become injured. Because lanolin is oily by nature it may interfere with LilyPadz® ability to adhere to you, so we recommend applying only to the nipple and areola (leaving the edges to still adhere) and wearing them with good support to avoid slippage. The lanolin will wash away with soap and water, renewing the lining for your next use.

Can I Sleep In LilyPadz®?

Yes, this has been proven to be one of the most popular advantages to LilyPadz®. Because of their self-adhesive lining they can be used without your bra - a sleep luxury for any nursing mother

Will LilyPadz®  Show Under Clothing?

No, LilyPadz® goes unnoticed under almost any choice of clothing – even white T-shirts or braless!

Can I Go Swimming In LilyPadz®?

Yes…LilyPadz® must be applied when dry and to dry skin but once they are in place water does not penetrate them and cause them to fall off. So your LilyPadz® are effective as you go from dry to wet to dry again and again.

Can I Use LilyPadz® When My Milk Dries Up?

Yes, LilyPadz® can be worn continuously without feeding or expressing milk. You may experience some discomfort initially as with any weaning situation, but this zero demand triggers your body to regulate its milk supply down and eventually dry up.

Do LilyPadz® Increase The Risk Of Mastitis

No.  LilyPadz® offer no increase risk of mastitis or offer lactating complications.  Newborns feed anywhere between 8-12 times in 24 hours.  Feeding your baby frequently and for as long as he or she wishes, to ensure that your breasts are emptied well and frequently helps to regulate your supply and avoid breastfeeding problems such as engorgement, over fullness, blocked ducts and mastitis.

Does Nipple Size Affect My Use Of LilyPadz®

The use and success of LilyPadz is not affected by size of the nipple or Areola.
